Always be at the airport with plenty of time before your flight. Arriving late for your flight without good reason that can be proven may not be a good enough reason for you to claim on your travel insurance. Remember the extra security at the airport can add time to your journey.
You can still buy single trip travel insurance, often at prices well below what your local holiday agent would offer you. This can be very cost effective solution if you know you will only be travelling once this year. However if you intend travelling more than once, then you should compare an annual policy to two single policies.
If you are in business and travel without warning, you may find many of the conditions of normal travel insurance insufficient. That is because many policies require you to pre-book any accommodation or flights, to prove you were in fact on your way to a destination for business.
