If you are only intending to travel to Europe there is no need to purchase worldwide travel insurance. But be aware if you intend to purchase and annual insurance and you have not decided on a second holiday location, for a few pounds more it may be costs effective to have a worldwide policy.
Most companies will ask you what level of cover you require, from baggage insurance to personal effects. Ensure you know the value of that you are taking away with you, but also consider the value of goods you may be bringing back. You may have to claim for them, if they are lost during the return trip.
You can still buy single trip travel insurance, often at prices well below what your local holiday agent would offer you. This can be very cost effective solution if you know you will only be travelling once this year. However if you intend travelling more than once, then you should compare an annual policy to two single policies.
